New year, same old me ;)
It’s January 4th already! I thought now would be a good time to review my performance in my first year of content creation.
Here are my numbers for LinkedIn and Substack for the 2024 calendar year:
LinkedIn:
Total number of posts: 321
Subscriber increase: 35 → 405
Total views: 103,430
Total engagements: 1,695
Best day: 4,800 impressions
My subscriber count increased by 11 times!!! I did not expect to have hit 100k impressions. My average engagement percentage is around 1.7% which seems pretty low. That’s something for me to work on!
Other interesting numbers:
My best-performing post in terms of impressions had 1633 impressions. This was it:
The next 13 highest were all job opening summaries! The best-performing post in terms of engagement had 18 engagements on it! This was the post:
Again, I don’t know why this is the best post but it’s not bad. This was a redo of my first LinkedIn post ever in 2023.
After my LinkedIn account got restricted (for no apparent reason) in 2023, I didn’t think I could get back on. Fortunately, in May last year (how weird it is to say last year was 2024), I got my account back up and running. I started posting again in late May.
My progress was slow despite my daily posts. In October, I started posting job openings listings every day, and finally, I started to see some momentum. Within a few days, I went from around 90 followers to 200. As of today, my follower count is at 407.
Decent.
Substack:
Total number of posts: 81
Subscribers: 35
Total views: 2,461
Best day: 78 views
I gained 35 subscribers this year. Given that 13 of them are people I know, that makes it 22 new subscribers. This isn’t much but I haven’t written many real blog posts. The majority of the articles on here are the job summaries.
This is something I want to change moving forward. I will experiment with writing about different topics in the next few months. The topics could include business news, entrepreneurship, and history.
Another thing I can do is engage with other Substack writers. There is a whole community on Substack that will be extremely beneficial to me.
I’m excited to work on Substack more.
Conclusion and Lessons Learned
I feel like my content has improved tremendously over the year but I still have so much to learn. I still feel like a beginner but I need to just keep writing.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
Be a problem solver.
Interact with and be part of your community.
Whether you post daily or weekly, stay consistent.
Be entertaining, educational, inspiring, or all three.
If something isn’t working for a long time, don’t be afraid to change directions.
Finally and most importantly:
Keep going. Keep writing. Practice makes perfect.
Thanks for reading! I’m planning to restart my daily job summaries this Monday. Every week, I’ll also write a detailed blog post about whatever I can think of.
See ya!
